Advantages to Joining a Young Musicians’ Orchestra

The Young Musicians’ JUNIOR Orchestra

The CGCC Community Arts Program Conservatory for the Arts Young Musicians’ JUNIOR Orchestra is an after-school ensemble for beginning string players (ages 8-15) who will benefit from engaging in weekly highly-structured learning/rehearsal sessions and a minimum of four performances. The Junior Orchestra will also serve as a feeder for the existing CGCC Community Arts Program Young Musicians’ Advanced String Orchestra (entering its sixth year), consisting of intermediate to advanced players. The Young Musicians’ Junior Orchestra is open to all youth of Miami-Dade County who currently have a basic understanding on their stringed instrument of choice. Participants will learn the mechanics of and the techniques for preparing a broad spectrum of repertoire (classical, jazz and contemporary, including commissioned works) plus the value of collaborative cross-cultural music making and the gratifying value and growth within a diverse ensemble setting. Hands-on sessions will engage in the challenges of ensemble music-making, and problem solving within the broad spectrum of repertoire presented. This approach promises a worthwhile perspective into the professional music world while working on the challenges of literature, technique, ensemble, and fostering the marketability of a well-rounded musician.
The Young Musicians’ ADVANCED Orchestra
6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings

The Young Musicians’ Advanced Orchestra is open to all youth of Miami-Dade County who need an outlet in which to study and learn orchestra music through engaging, hands-on sessions. Participants will study repertoire that spans the classical, jazz and contemporary (commissioned works) genres in training sessions that involve ensemble music-making, problem solving and repertoire exposure. Coaching sessions, weekly group rehearsals, and an average of four public performances provide a solid foundation for the learning process. With an overall focus towards well-rounded approaches to music learning, this academically-based orchestra promises worthwhile perspectives into the professional music world while working on the challenges of literature, technique and ensemble.
