Candido Camero Wins Percussionist of the Year!

2008-06-24

2008 Summer Concert Series artist, Candido Camero, is the winner of the Jazz Journalists Association 2008 Jazz Award for Percussionist of the Year. The announcement was made at a June 18 awards ceremony. The Jazz Association, a non-profit professional organization, celebrates its 12th annual celebration of excellence in jazz and jazz journalism, and induction of an “A Team” of activists, advocates, altruists, aiders and abettors of jazz.

Bravo also to drummer Bobby Sanabria, who appeared on June 5 with Candido Camero, and his award for Latin Jazz Album of the Year: Big Band Urban Folktales. Other Jazz Journalists Association 2008 Jazz Award winners, from CGCC Community Arts Program Summer Concert Series artists of the past, include Terence Blanchard (Trumpeter of the Year), Christian McBride (Bassist of the Year), and Regina Carter (Strings Player of the Year). Bravi!

The CGCC Community Arts Program is proud to have presented each of these artists and committed to its endeavor of presenting the finest artists. Join us for the Summer Concert Series and hear for yourself!
